Directories
-----------
QWK/DDN and REP/NEW are the directories where message and reply packets can be found. You will normally set both these directories to the same as defined for your communications program directories.
The BBS definition directory is used by LHL to keep layout information about all of the BBS's you regularly frequent. With this information, you will be able to send messages to the various predefined BBS's without requiring an old message packet.
File attaches are sometimes included with particular messages. LHL will find and identify these files and automaticaly copy them to the ATT directory.
The two temporary work directories are used to unzip messages packets and replies packet. You must never copy files into these directories as they are frequently deleted. It is very important that these two directories are different from each other. A
Import/export directory specify where ASCII files can be found. A
Data base directory specify where LHL can find it's data bases. J
(Un)zip directory specify where PKZIP, PKPAK, LHARC or ARJ can be found.

General options
---------------
Many options can be selected simultaneously. Caution is required when selecting the "Delete old replies" and "Delete old packets" options because they are not reversible. The "Header in reply" option let you format few lines of text which will be added at the begining of your replies.
Header format
-------------
Use the following codes inside the text to personnalize your header: T
%BL Blue %YR Year
%GR Green %MO Month
%CY Cyan %DA Day
%RD Red %HR Hour
%MG Magenta %MI Minute
%BR Brown %HM Hour:Minute
%GY Light gray
%DG Dark gray %CR Carriage return

%LR Light red %F2 Originally from (Name)
%LM Light magenta %TO Originally to (First Name)
%YE Yellow %T1 Originally to (First)
%WH White %T2 Originally to (Name)
Quotes format *** Caution ***
-----------------------------
Standard
format places the initials of the sender at the begining of each line of the original message. When you reply to a message in an echomail conference, be sure to use this format. Other formats can be used only on local conferences.
Quotes type
-----------
This selection works only with the quotes format "box" and "cramp". Possible choices are solid (
), single (
) or double (
Qotes/text ratio
----------------
When you end a message, LHL will check your quotes/text ratio and if you have not met your default level as defined in the global options, you are prompted to revise your message or save it. n
It is suggested that you try to quote as little as possible by imposing the default 20% ratio upon yourself.
Data bases
----------
You can specify names of the various data bases, all of them are located in the data base directory specified in the global options. These data base files are plain ASCII and you can edit them with any editor.
Export file
-----------
The export file is the default file suggested when you save a message. If the file already exists you are prompted to choose between append or write over.
Message index
-------------
Specify if the index will be built either globally or by conference. Also, specify if the index will be static or not ("Sync" option). When "Sync" option is on, time to generate index will be more longer.

Conversion

When you read the messages, LHL will automatically convert color codes (Ansi, Searchlight, Remote Access, Widcat, etc.). Otherwise, when you insert color in your messages, you must specify the type of conversion to use. If not, color codes will be stripped when saved. 5
Video mode & snow effect
------------------------
LHL is designed for VGA screen but can be used on monochrome and LCD display as well. If your video card has a color emulation and your display is hard to read, choose the monochrome option or build a personal color set. If the display flickers, place an "X" in the "Eliminate" field to slow the display. k

Edit
Encryption
index
icons
Encryption applies an alteration of the characters. This is not a very hard coded scheme, but curious Sysops will not be able to read these messages easily. Never use these functions on a public conference.
Use encryption if you receive an encrypted message and want to read it. When a message is encrypted with LHL, a line stand before the crypted text, telling you which of the three methods is used. e
The three shemes are auto-uncryptable, meaning that you use the same function to crypt and uncrypt. a
The LHL proprietary mode is available only if you register to LHL. This mode restrict the number of people capable to uncrypt the message. Only author and addressee are able to uncrypt the message. If you want additional security, you can use pass-word but remember that addressee will not be able to uncrypt the message without the correct pass-word.
